S Magazine

After two very stressful days of just seeing in front of the computer, using InDesign, having technical problems, and compulsively swearing at technology and the rest of the world...Our magazine project is done. Over. S magazine is finished, printed off and handed in. 
There are no words to express how relieved I feel.
I'm so tired, I can't write anymore...
Here is the final magazine:

Después de dos días estresantes sentada en frente a la computadora, usando InDesign, teniendo problemas técnicos e insultando compulsivamente a la tecnologia y el resto del mundo...Nuestra revista está lista. Finalizada. Revista S llegó a su fin...está impresa y entregada.
No hay palabras para explicar mi alivio.
Estoy tan cansada, que ya no puedo ni escribir.
Aquí esta la revista final:

Our magazine is a budget magazine aimed at creative art students aimed at both girls and boys, which means it will be more visual and creative based. Every two weeks the magazine will target a particular creative arts subject. The layout of the magazine will be in the style of a sketchbook to emphasise our target audience and we thought it would be interesting to use a range of fabrics and textured papers. The title of our magazine again is based around our target audience. We used V magazine as inspiration as we all like the idea of having one letter as the title, in order to create mystery. We decided on the letter ‘S’ as our title as most of our components in the magazine relate to the letter ‘S’ such as students, scrapbook, street-style and it will be based in the Sussex area.

The size of the magazine will be 20 x 24.5 and the typography will predominately look hand-written.

The main aim of the magazine is to enable creative university students to relate to it, by having a personal and laid back tone, being written by students for students. In addition, we want to make the magazine something that people will want to pick up and read. This will be achieved by making it very visual and tactile, and have a striking front cover with some sort of mystery to it that will encourage people’s curiosity. 

We believe that with the real life content and unusual materials and style of the magazine we will inspire people to think outside of the box to a certain extent, but also to feel like there’s finally someone that understands them and relate to them. 

Nuestra revista es barata y enfocada en estudiantes de arte (hombres y mujeres), lo cual significa que va a tener que ser visual y creativa. Cada dos semanas la revista va a dirigirse a un grupo particular de las carreras artísticas. El diseño de la revista va a ser como un cuaderno, para acentuar en que tipo de lector nos focalizamos, y pensamos que sería interesante imprimir la revista sobre una variedad de telas y papeles. El título de nuestra revista una vez más se basa en nuestro público objetivo. Se utilizó la revista V como fuente de inspiración, como a todos nos gusta la idea de tener una letra, como el título,con el fin de crear misterio y ambigüedad. Nos decidimos por la letra 'S' para el título ya que la mayoría de nuestros componentes en la revista se refieren a la letra 'S', tales como students, scrapbook, streetstyle- y que se basará en el área de Sussex.

El tamaño de la revista será de 20 x 24,5 y la tipografía se será predominantemente manuscrita. El objetivo principal de la revista es para que los estudiantes de arte universitarios se relacionen con ella, mediante un tono de personal y relajado, siendo escrito por estudiantes para estudiantes. Además, queremos que la revista sea tan llamativa, que haga que la gente quiera recogerla y leerla. Esto se logrará mediante las imágenes y sus cualidades táctiles, además de su portada llamativa con algún tipo de misterio para que estimule la curiosidad de la gente.Creemos que con el contenido de la vida real y el estilo de la revista vamos a inspirar a la gente a pensar fuera de la caja, hasta cierto punto, pero también a sentir que por fin hay alguien que los entienda.

I'm too lost in you...Christian

On Friday 11^th of May, I submerged myself into the Design Museum near Tower Bridge in London to see the Christian Louboutin exhibition.

As I walked up the stairs of the Design Museum, I embarked in a circus of shoes, which welcomed me with an entrance with flashing lights which made me feel as if I was entering a cabaret.

El viernes 11 de Mayo, me sumergí en el Design Museum cerca del Tower Bridge en Londres para ver la exhibición de Christian Louboutin.

Subiendo las escaleras del museo, me embarqué en un circo de zapatos, que me dio la bienvenida con una entrada con luces haciendome sentir que estaba entrando en un cabaret.

Making my way through the corridors, a hint of sexy music running through my ears seduced me in, removing me from the noise of the big city and taking me into a whole different world.

The dim lighting hiding the black walls and the soft velvet red curtains created a mysterious atmosphere and the exhibition’s theme definitely portrayed the sensual essence of Louboutin’s shoes.

From Rolls Royce sky-high shoes to Guiness shoes (black shoes with Guiness cans heels) and artisanal shoes such as the Amelissa Maroc, Louboutin’s earliest designs I noticed how his life and surroundings highly influenced him to create these master pieces. 

As I walked into a little capsule which looked like the Eden Gardens, I found myself looking at some of his most recent and classic designs. This led people into a room displaying incredible glossy shoes on a big and round version of a piano. The mirrors around it lets me see the reflection of my astonished face, and I suddenly get a feeling of insecurity…I can’t help but feeling common and plain standing next to those pieces of art.

Caminando por los pasillos, empecé a escuchar una melodia sensual senduciendome a entrar, que me hizo olvidar de los ruidos de la gran ciudad y me hizo sentir que estaba entrando a un mundo completamente distinto.

Las tenues luces, las paredes negras y las suaves cortinas de terciopelo creaban un atmosfera misteriosa y la tematica de la exhibición definitivamente retrataron la escencia sensual de los zapatos Louboutin.

Desde altos zapatos Rolls Royce a zapatos Guiness y tacos artesanales como los Amelissa Maroc, los diseños mas antiguos del diseñador me hicieron dar cuenta de cuanta influencia saca de su vida cotidiana y las cosas a su alrededor.

Caminando hacia una pequeña cápsula que se parecía a los Jardines del Eden, me encontre mirando algunos de sus diseños  mas clásicos y recientes. Esto llevaba a la gente a un cuarto que mostraba increíbles zapatos en un gran piano circular. Los espejos al rededor de este dejaron que vea el reflejo de mi cara sorprendida, y de repente me sentí insegura...no pude evitar sentirme común parada al lado de esas obras de arte.

I walked from a room that briefly tells the designer’s biography to a mini cinema showing (the cringiest film ever) Loubi’s Angels and then discover a room that looks like the designer’s archives-a representation of his atelier. Filled with drawings and objects he has brought back from his travels. In the corner, two trapeze bars could be seen hanging from the high sealing, where Loubi practices when he has time. 

I left the atelier behind, to get lost in the shadows and obscurity of the fetish room, which is probably one of the things that amazed me the most at the exhibition. It displays shoes with metal spikes and heels so high that the shoe was elevated to a 180 degree angle (completely vertical). This room shows twisted but provocative shoes which have been “made for sex”. The atmosphere of it matches the dark décor of the photographs showing a couple of pale cabaret dancers moving effortlessly in the glooms.  

The exhibition is designed so you can walk out of the darkness into an amazingly decorated burlesque full of shoes made with fishnet, spikes, leather, animal skins and lace.

Caminé a través de un cuarto que contenía una breve biografía del diseñador y por un pequeño cine en el que mostraban una película llamada Los Angeles de Loubi, para luego encontrarme en el atelier del diseñador. Lleno de dibujos y objetos que trajo de sus viajes por el mundo. En la esquina, vi dos trapecios colgando del alto techo, en el que Loubi practica cuando tiene tiempo.

Dejé atrás el atelier para perderme en las sombras y la oscuridad del cuarto fetiche, que probablemente es una de las cosas que mas me sorprendieron en la exhibición. Muestra zapatos con clavos de hierro y tacos tan altos que hacían que los zapatos esten completamente verticales. Este cuarto muestra zapatos raros pero provocativos que están hechos "para tener sexo". La atmósfera muestra un parecido con la decoración obscura de las fotografías en las paredes que muestran un par de bailarinas de Cabaret bailando sin esforzarse en las sombras. 

La exhibición está diseñada para que puedas salir de la oscuridad a un burlesque decorado espectacularmente, lleno de zapatos hechos con red, clavos, cuero, piel de animales y encaje.

 I found myself in a state of hallucination and blindness caused by the extravagant and spectacular shoes designed by the French designer.

I literally wanted to take all of them home. Luckily that didn’t fit me; otherwise I would have done it.

Me di cuenta que estaba alucinando y enseguecida por la extravagancia de los zapatos hechos por el diseñador francés.

Quería llevarme todos los zapatos a casa. Por suerte no me entraban, si no lo hubiese hecho.

My favourite part was the exquisite finale: the holographic performance featuring Dita Von Teese at the centre of the exhibition. It really made people experience the greatness of a luxurious French Cabaret. I couldn’t help but fall in love with the performance and the colossal hologram of a blindingly gorgeous Loubi shoe in the middle of the stage. As soon as they show was over, I looked around and realized that there was a massive croud behind me and I was right in the first row. 

Mi parte preferida fue el exquisito final: el holograma de Dita Von Teese en el medio del salón, que hizo que la gente se sienta parte de un lujoso Cabaret francés. No pude evitar enamorarme con el acto y el holograma enorme de un zapato brillante de Loubi en el medio del escenario. En cuanto el show terminó, miré a mi al rededor y me di cuenta que había un montón de gente atrás mio y yo estaba en primera fila. 

 I thought I liked Christian Louboutin before Friday, but now I know…this is true love.

Pensé que me gustaba Christian Louboutin antes del viernes, pero ahora se...que es amor verdadero.

What to wear for your first day at work in fashion

After having talked to one of my friends, who is starting her fashion internship in London tomorrow, I started thinking of what would be the ideal outfit to wear for her first day. I found a little article on http://dknyprgirl.tumblr.com/ which advised people on what to wear for a job interview, but having read that I realised that there's nothing on the internet which actually tells you what to wear or gives you any specific advise. (Or maybe there is but I haven't looked that hard). Also, an interview it's completely different than a first day at work. 
So anyway, after having a little think about it (and procrastinating from doing work), I thought that:

• It has to be something smart yet quirky and trendy. 
• Not too revealing, you don't want to give out the wrong impression!
• Heels are a must (I don't know why, but if I think of working at the fashion industry the first thing I think of is black heels), but they've got to be comfortable. Don't wear sky-high stilettos. Keep in mind it's a job, not a night out. 
• You should wear black (because with black you can't never go wrong), red (it shows enthusiasm, confidence and interest), or some other colour that is trending. 
• Make sure that your nails are not chipped- if you don't have time to do your nails, just get your hands on some nail varnish
• Make sure that you feel comfortable with what your wearing
• Bring an extra pair of tights, hair-clips, lipstick and deodorant for the course of the day.

Después de haber hablado con una amiga, que empieza una pasantía en una empresa de moda en Londres mañana, empecé a pensar cual seria el atuendo más apropiado para usar en un día como este. Encontré un articulo en http://dknyprgirl.tumblr.com/  que aconseja a la gente en que ponerse para una entrevista de trabajo, pero después de haber leído esto me di cuenta que no hay nada en internet que dice que ponerte o te da ningún consejo específico. (O quizás si, pero no me fije muy bien). Además, una entrevista es completamente distinta a un primer día de trabajo.

Asi que, después de pensarlo (y evadir hacer tarea), pensé que:

• Debe ser algo formal pero con onda y a la moda.
• Que no revele mucho, no tenés que dar una mala impresión!
• Tacos son un must (no se porque, pero cuando pienso en trabajar en moda pienso en zapatos altos negros), pero tienen que ser cómodos. No uses stilettos muy altos. Acordate que es un trabajo, no una discoteca. 
• Asegurarse que las uñas estén en buen estado-si no tenes tiempo de hacerte las manos asegurate de sacarte el esmalte
• Asegurarse de sentirse comoda con lo que se tiene puesto
• Llevar un par extra de medibachas, clips de pelo, rouge y desodorante para el transcurso del día.

Met Gala @ New York Metropolitan Museum

So I'm watching the Met Gala taking place at the New York Metropolitan Museum right now.
Seeing some great dresses on the red carpet, and really wanting to get on a plane to USA and go see the new exhibition featuring designs of two very different designers such as Schiaparelli and Prada.

Brighton Streetstyle

What better place to find bold, exciting street style than in Brighton? Having this alternative and versatile city so close to home is definitely an advantage and opportunity that not everyone has. 

People might go to places like London, Paris, New York or Milan for fashion inspiration, but I think what you see in Brighton is much more valuable than that. People's different personalities really come through their clothes and accessories, and their friendly and willing attitude (in most cases) really makes you feel welcome there. 

I've taken these photos last friday (luckily it was one of the only sunny and warm days of the last two weeks). I felt like such a creeper approaching people and asking them if I could take their photo, but it was definitely gratifying to see how enthusiastic they were about it. 

Something tells me that some of these people go out dressed up like this in order to just attract people's attention, hoping that they'd get "headhunted" or discovered by some sort of fashion guru. 

I'll admit street style photography was never my strongest point, but the more I do, the more I get into it. I just love observing what people are wearing and seeing the kind of statements they make through their style.

Que mejor lugar para encontrar moda callejera tan audaz y emocionante como en Brighton? Teniendo esta ciudad tan alternativa y versátil como esta tan cerca de casa es definitivamente una ventaja y oportunidad que no todos tienen.

Hay gente que van a lugares como Londres, Paris, Nueva York o Milan para encontrar inspiración de moda, pero creo que lo que uno ve en Brighton es mucho más valioso que eso. Las personalidades de cada personaje se ve notoriamente a través de su ropa y accesorios, y su actitud amistosa y abierta (en la mayor parte de los casos) realmente te hace sentir bienvenido. 

Tomé estas fotos el viernes pasado (por suerte fue uno de los únicos días soleados y cálidos de las ultimas dos semanas). Me sentí tan acosadora al acercarme a la gente y preguntarles si les podía tomar una foto, pero fue definitivamente gratificante ver que tan entusiasmados estaban al respecto. 

Algo me dice que la mayoría se visten de esta manera a propósito para llamar la atención, esperando ser descubiertos por algún tipo de Gurú de la moda. 

Admito que fotografía de moda de la calle nunca fue mi punto mas fuerte, pero cuanto más lo hago, más me gusta. Me encanta observar lo que la gente esta usando y ver lo que transmiten mediante su estilo.

S Magazine photoshoot

Yesterday was crazy to say the least. Together with other three girls from my course who I'm working with on creating a magazine prototype, we were running around college like headless chickens. 
Talking to tutors about our articles, layouts; trying to find models around college (this consisted in walking around, staring at people, and running after the ones that look like they had "potential" for our photoshoot), setting up the studio, shooting within a very limited amount of time, and starting to put things together on InDesign. Ahhh, even writing about it is making me feel exhausted.
Anyway, here's a sneak peek of the photos from yesterday (I decided to just show some of the ones that I shot myself)...hope you like them!

Ayer fue una locura. Junto a tres chicas más que estudian conmigo y con las que estoy trabajando en la creación de una revista, estuvimos corriendo de lado a lado como pollitos sin cabeza. 
Hablando con profesores acerca de nuestros artículos, planes; tratando de encontrar modelos a ultimo momento en la Universidad (lo cual consistió en dar vueltas por todos lados, observando a la gente y corriendo atrás de los que pensábamos que tenían "potencial" para nuestra sesión de fotos), montando el estudio, sacando fotos en muy poco tiempo, y empezando a poner a poner fotos y artículos en InDesign. Ahhh, me siento exhausta hasta de pensarlo.
Bueno, les dejo unas fotos de ayer (Decidí solo incluir algunas de las que yo saqué)...ojalá que les gusten!
